I agree with what you have to say about Amir’s jealousy
issues towards Hassan and I also agree that if Amir does not take control of
it, it will create a great conflict later on. Like you said, it is natural for
a son to be envious if someone else is receiving his father’s love that was meant
for him, but I hate that Amir knows he treats Hassan poorly and even acknowledges
when he is trying to mock him about not being able to read or something of the
sort and he chooses to not apologize because he has the “why would I apologize
to a servant” mentality. The prejudice towards hazaras has been an important factor from the beginning, and it is
sad to know that when their friendship is challenged, Amir is hesitant to say
that Hassan is his friend because he is only supposed to be his servant and
they shouldn't be associating. I feel
that after this scene with Assef, Amir will realize just how far Hassan would
go for him and maybe from there get the courage to tell others that Hassan is
his friend. The reason being is that if he doesn't stay true to his most loyal
companion, Amir will lead Hassan to feel neglected and start seeing Amir as just
the master that his social role in society calls him to be.
