An End to the Silence

After in the incident that Amir witnesses, an awkward tension begins to grow between Amir and Hassan. Amir doesn't want to admit to Hassan that he had watched the whole incident take place without stepping up to defend his best friend, and we know that Hassan would never tell Amir about the consequences he dealt with for trying to protect Amirs Kite. Amir decides to deal with this in a strange way. He ignores Hassan as much as he possibly can and refuses every attempt that Hassan offers him to go out and play.
One day, Amir goes as far as to even ask Baba if he'd ever consider the idea of getting new servants. Baba instantly grows furious and tells Amir that Ali and Hassan are family, they aren't going anywhere. I don't understand why Amir thinks the only way to solve this issue is by having one of them leave the house. I understand that maybe he thinks that that would be the only way to fix this issue at all, and he will be relieved of the guilt instantly if he doesn't have to see Hassan's face every day. This leads Amir to act out in a way that he will forever regret and never forget.
After his birthday, Amir decides to hide his new watch that his father had given him and a pile of money under Hassan's bed. He informs his father that it is missing and waits until someone discovers that "Hassan" has taken the money and watch. Eventually it is found and they are all called into a room to discussed what has happened. I was not really surprised when Hassan tells Baba that he did steal Amirs presents, because I knew that Hassan clearly understood what Amir was trying to do. Of course, Baba forgives him because he does not want to fire them because that would mean that they have to move out. I was surprised when Ali refused to stay, and told Baba how it was impossible for them to live here now.
I have never been in Amirs position, so I really do not know how I'd react, but I hate him so much for what he did. I can think of many other things he could have done. I don't understand why he had to be so selfish and cruel to the one person who would do anything in the world for him. It hurt me to have to read on and see how upset Baba was to watch half of his family leave, and how emotionally hurt Hassan was. Of course Hassan is trying to do what Amir wants, and Ali, who was always as forgiving as Hassan, even seemed to be incredibly hurt by Amirs actions. Amir may think that this will relieve him of his guilt, but I know that his actions will never stop haunting him.
