Many people have been commenting on their posts on how it was cowerdess for Amir to do what he did. However, no one is writing about how awful Assef and his friends are. Just this morning, I sat down at my house to eat breakfast and saw an article in the paper about two fifteen year old girls who are being prosecuted for organizing a rap of one of their fellow classmates. This in a sense made me think of the Kite Runner. Even though these girls did not physically rape the girl, they are being convicted of the crime for being there and filming it. In my opinion, this shows that Assef’s friends are just as guilty as Assef is himself. Someone needs to stick up to them and teach them a lesson, since there is a very unlikely chance that any of them will be arrested for the situation. This also leads to the question: Is Amir guilty of a crime as well? In school we always hear from the administration that the person who does not report bullying is as guilty as the bully. This applies to the situation here. Anyways, to get back to Assef, in my opinion, Hassan should go back at him with the slingshot and take out his eye as he threatened to do earlier in the book. He should catch Assef when he is alone and get revenge. I know that violence is not the answer, but in this situation it might be the only way that Assef can be punished. We all know that Amir is too big of a b**** to do anything about it, so it is all up to Hassan to get back at him himself.
To get away from this situation, we saw a minor but large detail in the last reading passage that no one commented on. The President had been assassinated and a new government is now taking over. I think that this is going to play a huge role later on in the book and ultimately create a large problem for the higher class.
