I agree with Wendell on how the Kite Runner did an amazing job at depicting Afghanistan before the war because when the country is brought to mind, people really only think about the Taliban and how it is a war stricken country. Not many people know that before the Roussi and the Taliban came in, Afghanistan was actually a beautiful country that held happy memories such as the kite running contests and in all honesty, I had no idea either. The relationship between the before and after the war of Afghanistan gave a great outlook on exactly how much damage the war really did to Afghanistan.
The differences between Amir and Baba, I agree, were what made they're relationship so difficult. After all, how can you relate to someone who is nothing like you. Amir's jealousy towards Hassan was definitely what drove Amir to act the way he did and be so cruel but I don't think that if Amir knew that Hassan was his brother would've made Amir act any more different. Sibling rivalry does exist and if anything, I think Amir would have been even more rude to Hassan knowing he is his brother. I also agree with Wendell that Baba is a good man but I can understand why he didn't tell anyone , except for Rahim, about Hassan being his. It's pretty dishonorable for the world to know that Hassan was created out of an adultery and if Baba revealed the truth, I think it would've made their life harder. Although it's sad that Hassan died before he could be told, maybe it was for the best. Hassan already knew that Amir and himself were basically like brothers anyways.
