I have to disagree with Ben. Although I do think that he did
feel like he had something to prove, I d not believe that Amir grew up without
a parent or that he tried to run away from his problems. Amir did not have a
mother figure in his life, but as child he had threw father figures he could
look up to, his father, Ali and Rahim Kahn; all respectable men who seemed to
be doing a great job in raising him because they balanced each other out. Not
to mention, in California, Amir never mentions any friends that he spent time
with or any other influential people in his life except for Soraya and her
family. He spent most of his days alongside his father. Additionally, I do not
think that Amir attacked the situation but rather tried to let it dismantle on
its own. He was never going to stand up and say what was on his mind, so he was
shady and framed Hassan, but not because he wanted to hurt him, but because he
wanted Baba all to himself. In essence, I strongly disagree with what Ben said
about why Amir let Hassan get raped. He did not let Hassan get raped as some
sort of punishment; he let him get raped for himself. In some twisted way, Amir
probably believed that Baba would give all his attention to Amir now.
