Comment

I would like to comment on Ben’s post, I do not necessarily think that Amir does what he does because he has had a change of heart. I think that everything in his life has revolved around making what he did or failed to do in the alley right. Even when he is not making it right, he is attempting to forget it by creating a whole new life for himself away from Hassan and the memories of Hassan. When he is forced to take in Sahib, he does not do this because he has had a change of heart and has all of a sudden become a caring and sympathetic person. Nor does he do it because he now has courage to take on a new challenge in life. The only reason he does it is because he is too much of a coward to face his feelings of guilt and self-disapproval again. Instead he does something that seems to be for someone else, the reality is quite the contrary. He takes in Sahib to protect himself from the feelings and consequences of not doing so.
